My latest project has been decoding NOAA APT weather satellite images:

I use WXtoIMG software and a homemade QHA antenna based on Bob Cash’s page and Steve’s page. I use a modified R139 Receiver made by Hamtronics. I added a LM7812 regulator and rewired the 4017 chip to eliminate 3 of the unused channels. I only need 137.5 and 137.62.  I also replaced the goofy DB-9 connector and the strange pigtail setup that came with the R139 with a normal power and audio connectors.  I installed a LNK-137 mast mount preamp from Hamtronics. The Preamp is mounted just below the antenna. I wired the required 12+ for the LNK-137 to the added LM7812 in the R139. This way I don’t have to worry about ground loops and the like. As an added bonus, when I turn off the R-139 I am also turning off the LNK-137. I used silicon sealant around the cover of the preamp to keep the rainwater out of the electronics.  Click here for more info about NOAA APT satellites.  I am writing the software and building an interface so WXtoImg software can control the R139. This way I will not be relying on the squelch and scan of the R139.
